Program Specifications & Core Direct Answers
Concise answers to common admissions, curriculum, delivery, and credentialing questions.
1What is the program?
Live online tuition for Pearson Edexcel International A-Level (IAL) — a modular pre-university qualification with January and June examination windows.
Edexcel IAL consists of IAS (Year 1, 50% of the full A-Level) and IA2 (Year 2, completing the remaining 50%). The modular structure with two annual exam series gives students an additional grade-improvement window that Cambridge A-Level does not offer.
2Who is it for?
Students aged 16–19 targeting UK university admission (UCAS), US/Canadian colleges, or Pakistani HEIs seeking maximum exam flexibility.
Particularly suited to students who may need to resit a unit or improve a grade before UCAS application deadlines, thanks to the January examination series. Also ideal for students whose preferred examination centre offers Pearson Edexcel.
3What will learners study?
Pearson Edexcel IAL syllabi in Mathematics (YMA01), Physics (YPH01), Chemistry (YCH01), Biology (YBI01), Economics (YEC01), Business (YBS01), Computer Science (YCS01), and Accounting (YAC01).
IAS units (Year 1 papers) and IA2 units (Year 2 papers) are taught sequentially. MENTISERA uses Pearson published specifications and examiner reports from recent series to guide teaching emphasis.
4What skills will they develop?
University-level analytical writing, quantitative problem-solving, scientific paper analysis, and UCAS academic presentation.
Edexcel IAL papers combine structured data/calculation questions and extended analytical essays. Students develop the ability to achieve full marks on multi-mark questions through examiner-technique workshops.
5How long does it take?
IAS: 10 months (September – June/January). Full IAL: 20 months over 2 years.
IAS Year 1 students may sit in June. Students who sit January units receive an early result before the main UCAS offer confirmation window (end of June). IA2 (Year 2) completes the full A-Level.
6Is it online or in person?
Live small-group online classes with digital whiteboard, Edexcel past-paper library, ILP, and recorded replays.
All sessions are interactive with real-time Q&A. Edexcel-specific past papers (January and June series from 2016 onwards) are used systematically. Assignments returned within 72 hours; mock papers within 7 days.
7What does it cost?
PKR 35,000 per month for the full A-Level-equivalent program; PKR 17,000 per month for each individual subject.
The fixed monthly full-program package covers administrator-configured included subjects. Individual subjects cost PKR 17,000 per month. Pearson Edexcel examination fees are paid directly to an approved centre.
8Are there prerequisites?
5 GCSE / O-Level passes (grade C or above). Relevant subject background for Maths and Science.
For Maths IAL: strong O-Level Maths (B or above) required. For sciences: relevant O-Level science at grade B or above. Bridging support available for students from FSc / HSSC background.
9What certificate is awarded?
MENTISERA IAL Tuition Report. Official Pearson Edexcel IAS/IAL certificate issued by Pearson Edexcel through approved centres.
IAS (standalone) and full IAL certificates are issued by Pearson Edexcel. IAS/IAL carry UCAS tariff points and are recognised by IBCC for Pakistani university equivalence.

What is the advantage of Edexcel IAL over Cambridge A-Level?▾
The key advantage is the January examination sitting. Edexcel IAL allows students to take and potentially resit individual units in January, giving an extra grade-improvement window before UCAS decision deadlines in April. Cambridge A-Level generally offers only May/June and Oct/Nov series.
Are Edexcel IAL results accepted for UCAS applications?▾
Yes. Pearson Edexcel International A-Level results carry the same UCAS tariff points as standard A-Levels and are accepted by all UK universities, including Russell Group institutions.
Can a student start in January for Edexcel IAL?▾
Yes. Students enrolling in January can prepare for specific IAS unit papers in the June sitting after approximately 5 months of tuition, depending on the subject.
Is IBCC equivalence available for Edexcel IAL?▾
Yes. The IBCC issues equivalence certificates for Pearson Edexcel IAL grades, making them acceptable for merit-based admission at Pakistani universities alongside Cambridge A-Level results.
How does the modular system work in practice?▾
Each unit (e.g., Physics WPH11) has its own syllabus, past papers, and examination window. You sit units individually. Your overall IAS or IAL grade is calculated from the combination of unit scores. This means a weak unit can be improved without retaking all papers.
Examination registration is handled separately through an approved Pearson Edexcel examination centre. External exam fees are not included in MENTISERA tuition.
